Over 250 high school students will converge on the 4th Judicial District Friday and Saturday when the 26th annual Southern Colorado Mock Trial competition returns to the courthouse.
The competition – judged by 100 judges, lawyers and business leaders – gives the students a chance to see what it’s like to take a case to trial.
This year’s exercise involved a hypothetical civil lawsuit involving cyber-stalking. Six teams will go on to a semi-final round on Feb. 8 at 4 p.m. with two teams going to the finals at 6:30 p.m. in the Pioneers Museum.
The top five teams will go on to the state finals in Broomfield on March 11-12. The winner of that competition goes to the national finals in Phoenix, AZ on May 5-7.
The local competiton is co-sponsored by the El Paso County Bar Association and the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs.
All of the local competitions are open to the public. For more information, go to www.coloradohighschoolmocktrial.com
